Glow yarn
Glow-in-the-dark yarn absorbs light and emits a soft glow in darkness. Perfect for amigurumi, nursery decor, costumes, and night-time projects. Recharge under light; follow the care label for washing.
Glow color note: Yarn color names such as orange, yellow, pink, or purple refer to the yarn color in daylight. Glow fiber source colors are green, blue, red, and white. Glow yarn is made by combining glow fiber with colored yarn; the finished yarn can show a rich, varied visible glow color (including orange, yellow, pink, purple, etc.), but the visible color is random and cannot be specified.
Recharge under sunlight or UV light, then the glow fades gradually. Choose smooth acrylic, chunky or textured chenille in neon-bright colours. Pair it with our colour-changing yarn (thermochromic shifts with heat, photochromic with light) and UV-reactive & reflective effects for extra wow.
Best glow in the dark yarn for crochet
There is no single best glow yarn for every crochet project. Choose by stitch definition, softness, and the hook size your pattern calls for.
| Yarn type | Best for | Hook size | Colors | Shop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polyester DK | Amigurumi, wearables, bags — smooth stitch definition | 3.5 mm | 41 | Glow Yarn 41 Colors Polyester |
| Acrylic fine/sport | Detailed amigurumi, lightweight accessories | 2.5 mm | 43 | Glow in the Dark Acrylic Yarn |
| Chenille | Blankets, pillows, plushies — soft and plush | 3.5 mm | 41 | Glow Chenille Yarn |
| Metallic acrylic | Decorative accents and sparkle | 2.5 mm | 40 | Glow Metallic Yarn |
| Rainbow twist | Small color-shift accents | 2.5 mm | 6 | Glow Rainbow Twist |
Bottom line: For a first glow project, start with the polyester DK or acrylic fine/sport yarn in the color you need. Choose chenille when softness matters more than crisp stitch definition.

How to choose glow yarn for crochet
- Match the yarn weight to the pattern. Fine/sport glow yarns pair with 2.5 mm hooks; DK and chenille glow yarns pair with 3.25–3.5 mm hooks. Check the product page for the exact recommended size.
- Pick smooth yarn for stitch definition. Acrylic and polyester show stitches more clearly; chenille is softer but can be harder to count.
- Charge before you stitch or wear. Expose the yarn to sunlight or UV light; the glow fades gradually after the light source is removed.
- Test your gauge. Glow yarns can feel slightly different from standard yarn of the same weight; crochet a small swatch before starting a garment or blanket.
