How to Crochet Glow-in-the-Dark Headphone Covers
Crochet headphone covers protect your headphones and add personality — and with glow-in-the-dark yarn, they look amazing when the lights go down. This beginner-friendly pattern works with any over-ear headphones and takes about 2-3 hours to complete.
What You'll Need
- Yarn: 1 skein of BlingBlingYarn Glow-in-the-Dark Acrylic Yarn (worsted weight) — glow green or glow blue recommended
- Hook: 4.0 mm (G/6 US) crochet hook
- Stitch markers, yarn needle, scissors
- Over-ear headphones (Sony, Beats, Bose, etc.) — measure your headphone cup diameter before starting
Step 1: Measure Your Headphones
Measure the diameter and height of your headphone ear cups. Most over-ear headphones have cups that are 7-10 cm (2.75-4 inches) in diameter. Write these measurements down — you'll use them for your foundation chain.
Step 2: Foundation Ring
Chain 4, slip stitch to form a ring. Round 1: Chain 1, work 8 single crochet (sc) into the ring. Join with slip stitch. (8 sts)
Step 3: Increase to Your Headphone Size
Round 2: Chain 1, 2 sc in each stitch around. Join. (16 sts) Round 3: Chain 1, *2 sc in first stitch, sc in next* repeat around. Join. (24 sts) Round 4: Chain 1, *2 sc in first stitch, sc in next 2* repeat around. Join. (32 sts) Continue increasing until the circle matches your headphone cup diameter. For a 9 cm cup, you'll need approximately 6-7 rounds.
Step 4: Work the Body
Once your circle matches the cup size, start working even rounds (no increases). Single crochet in each stitch around until the tube measures the same height as your headphone cup. For most headphones, this is 8-12 rounds.
Pro tip: Try it on your headphones after every 3 rounds to check fit. The cover should stretch slightly over the cup for a snug fit.
Step 5: Add a Glow Accent
For extra visibility, add a stripe of contrasting glow color or change to a different glow shade every 3-4 rows. Our glow rainbow twist yarn creates automatic color changes without weaving in ends.
Step 6: Finish and Attach
Fasten off, weave in ends. Slip the covers over your headphone ear cups. The stretch of the crochet fabric should hold them in place without adhesive. If they're loose, add one more round of sc with a smaller hook (3.5 mm) to tighten the edge.
Care Instructions
Remove covers from headphones before washing. Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Lay flat to dry. The glow effect will work even better after washing as the fibers relax.
